According to the Organ Procurement Transplant Network (OPTN), there are more than 105,000 people still in need of a transplant today with a new patient added every ten minutes. More alarming is that every day in the US twenty-two patients die on the list waiting for a transplant.
One of the keys to addressing the issue of solid organ shortage in the United State is to increase the organ donation rate per donor through improved donor management at the bedside and focus this care on the entire patient not just an organ.
Across the United States, the fifty-eight Organ Procurement Organizations(OPO) are tasked with managing these donor patients often with on site coordinators at the bedside with a protocol driven management process.
MMCM Consulting seeks to bridge the gap of donor management by providing access to a board certified pulmonary and critical care physician in a 24/7-365 coverage model to manage the donor in coordination with the on-site OPO coordinator.

Donor Management Details
Physicians
The physicians of MMCM Consulting are all board certified pulmonary and critical care doctors specializing in thoracic transplant with many years of experience in a transplant critical care unit. We have extensive experience with both BD and DCD donors.
Ventilatory Support
Aggressive and evidence based management of the donor in regards to ventilator support is not only key for lung allocation but also for maintaining proper oxygenation and acid base status. We adhere to evidence based guidelines to minnimize lung injury and maximize outcomes.
Communication SUpport
All donors are discussed when the OPO team arrives at the bedside. All lab and radiology data are reviewed and a management plan developed. Communication and care continues as new data is obtained We are always available for questions and discussions with hospital based specialists.
Hemodynamic support
Fluid management coupled with pressor requirements are critical to maintain perfusion of all organs balanced against volume overload and other homeostatic mechanisms in disarray. Utilization of available parameters such as pulse pressure varitation and CVP are key.
data Review
With the internet and advanced software technology on an iPAD platform we are able to review all pertinent data including radiographs and CT scans as well as reports from the donor hospital from anywhere in the country. We are also able to review all culture data and direct antibiotic utilization.
resource Management
We realize management of a donor patient is a resource intensive process with a time sensitive approach. Aggressive early management coupled with identification of barriers for specific organ donation increases efficiencies and decreases loss.
